The summer of 2022 has proven to be one of discord, discontent, anddivisive politics. As TV debates fell to a new low, party spokespersons seem completely bereft of common social courtesies and feel no need to even make a pretense of listening to an alternate point of view.
Personal choices are no longer of any consequence as creating hegemony even in food, dress, language, and customs is the flavour of the season. As a matter of fact, it has been for the last many seasons now.
Young minds being fed on factual inaccuracies may never recover from the venom that surrounds them. It is not surprising therefore to see many of our finest professionals perforce look at long-term options outside the country.
Driven by hate and hysteria, our country is hurtling headlong into a disastrous, xenophobic future. Is this the India our elders had envisioned and fought for?
On 28th December 1885, a group of professionals founded the Indian National Congress to take the country towards a free India. Not just free from the British, but a place ‘where the mind is without fear and the head is held high’.
Perhaps it is time once again for professionals to come together and renew efforts at bringing our beloved country back on track.
